Dental imaging utilizes radiation and thereby induces a risk, a risk to expose patients to radiation that may be harmful. This is why it’s common practice to protect the thyroid with a lead collar. It is of general interest (according to the ALARA* principle) to minimize the radiation as there is no lower threshold where radiation can be regarded as harmless.
